Ypacarai

THE TIGRESS AND THE AVIATOR

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author of “The Little Prince”, came to Paraguay in 1929 for the purpose of inaugurating the Aeropostal Route, as well as to meet Hilda Ingenohl, the “Tigress”, on the shores of Ypacarai lake.

Hilda, best known as the “Tigress”, was one of the first pilot women of the world, and a brave adventurer. After meeting Antoine in Paris, she realized his intention to travel to Paraguay, and invited him to spend a few days in the city of San Bernardino, on the shores of said lake. Some people say that said passion story included a few more visits.

Cañones de mi Patria

GOD’S JUSTICE!

In 1866, the technician and drawer Michael Hunter materialized the construction of a huge cannon with the purpose of fighting against the armored battleships during the War of the Triple Alliance.

Such cannon weighted 10 tons, and it was casted at an iron foundry in the city of Ybicuí using the bronze bells offered by the churches. Such bells were unhooked with full joy by the priests with a sense of revenge against all the rights which were breached during the “Guerra Grande” (Great War).

Bahia de Asunción

SEVENTY CITIES

Innumerable expeditions departed from the natural bay of Asuncion, downtown of the city, and during three and a half centuries, establishing more than 70 cities, extending from the Rio de la Plata basin up to the remote shores of the Guapay river.

Since the very foundation of the city of Asuncion on that remote day of August 15, 1537, the bay of the Very Noble and Royal City of “Nuestra Señora de la Asunción” has become the starting point of such expeditions, which were of course full of epic anecdotes waiting to be discovered.
